Adoption Process

Happy Tails Adoption Process

Over the last few years, I have been working and reworking my puppy adoption process.  My ultimate goal is to match you with your dream pup. But only second to that is to make the process as simple as possible and give you assurance that you are getting the puppy that you want and fits your/your family’s needs.

  1. Have you reached out to me via, text, phone, Instagram, Facebook or my website?  If not, be sure to visit the following link to see our upcoming litters and available puppies.
  2. Click to fill out an application. Filling out an application has no obligation attached to it.  By filling out an application I am able to assess your needs and address any problems I may see before you have paid a deposit for one of our puppies.
  3. Again, if you haven’t reached out to me directly, please do so at this point in the adoption process.  You can email me at happytailspoodsanddoods@gmail.com or direct message me on our Instagram page @happytailspoodsanddoods.  I will respond as soon as possible.  I understand that most people are anxiously awaiting their pup once they have started the process.
  4. Once your application has been reviewed and you would like to be added to one of our wait-lists or are interested in an available puppy, you will be need to pay a $250 NON REFUNDABLE deposit to hold your spot on our wait-list.  We always want our puppy families to be 100% happy with their choice, so if for any reason you’d like to skip the current litter your name may be transferred up to three times to another list. After three list transfers you will be asked to pay a new $250 deposit in order to be kept on our wat list and your application will be reviewed again to determine if Happy Tails Poods and Doods is the best fit for your family. You may make your deposit payment by Cash (In Person), Venmo, Zelle, or Apple Pay.
  5. Once you have paid your deposit and are officially awaiting your puppy these are the things you can expect.  First, a welcome letter explaining the time remaining until you get your puppy and the official date of puppy picking. This will include pregnancy confirmation, x-ray dates prior to birth and all details throughout whelping and the first 8 weeks of life.
  6. On the date of puppy picking (approximately 7 weeks old) we will review temperament, personality etc. with each wait list position. I will help place the best puppy for your family.  I promise it is much more important to match your lifestyle with the correct puppy temperament, than just picking the cutest puppy that is the sex that you want.  I will help you every step of the way. Please trust in my knowledge of each pup. I have spent every day with them since birth and I know them very well. Once you have picked your pup you will pay another $250 to hold your specific puppy for you.  Once you have paid your second deposit, your deposits are no longer transferrable. At this point, you are making a commitment to your pup to give him/her a loving home. You will then receive all details about your pup including birthdate, weight record, scent introduction records, ENS scoring, all exposures your pup has been desensitized to and more. This allows you to follow your pup on our social media accounts until the day you take her/him home. We will also discuss dates (at least 8 weeks old) that work for you to receive/pick up your puppy.
  7. We will now be planning your Gotcha Day! This is the best time to be preparing for your puppy to come home.  I have many products that I recommend and am available to help you know what you will need.  I also have a training program I will recommend, however there is no obligation to purchase.
  8. After “Gotcha Day” there will be many firsts for your new pup.  I have done all that I can to prepare him/her for all the new things.  I will be available to you every step of the way.  It is very normal for the first night away to be “hard”.  I will give you my best advice to make that “hard night” the very best possible.  You will immediately start potty training, socializing (safely), continuing kennel training and much more.  Again, I am available to help. I want your puppy to be successful.  I want you to be 100% satisfied with your new family member. I look forward to pup-dates and pictures of your new puppy living his/her best life!
